Young Artist Second Prize: Chunxiao Fu, Autumn Language No.1

Chunxiao Fu’s Autumn Language No. 1 demonstrates an evocative use of light and darkness as well as a subtle sense of composition and perspective. Autumn Language No. 1 was one of the three charcoal landscape sketches he submitted for the Derwent Art Prize.

The 24-year-old university art graduate specialises in oil painting and landscapes, and enjoys experimenting with different forms of media. He visited the art studio belonging to a mentor one day and became fascinated by sketches created in a similar style, inspiring him to come up with his own charcoal landscape pieces.

“Winning this prize is a form of recognition for my work as well as a sense of achievement” says Chunxiao Fu during his interview with Joyce Mah, Marketing Director of Derwent in Asia Pacific. “I hope to eventually open my own art studio one day, and continue pursuing and teaching arts.”

The exhibition of all 70 artworks shortlisted for the Derwent Art Prize 2020 is available in a virtual exhibition online.
